Providing a stress-free experience for patients navigating healthcare

about

Pond Health is a mobile app that eases the patient experience navigating and accessing healthcare. Pond addresses significant patient stressors, such as impersonal communication, complex scheduling platforms, and lack of transparency around cost and insurance. Personalized health profiles allow users to upload their insurance information and health histories so they can make informed decisions easily. Users can search for practitioners and schedule visits, see data-driven estimates on cost of care, and gain health insights and advice, all in the app.

Pond Health is a new product concept designed from the ground up. Through competitor analyses, industry research, and primary patient surveys, I uncovered a clear picture of the patient experience navigating and accessing healthcare. Patients reported significant pain-points involving insurance, cost transparency and scheduling complexities and delays. These pain-points frequently deter or delay patients from seeking care, and many patients would rather go to urgent care or the emergency room rather than deal with the process of scheduling primary care. This data became the north-star for Pond Health; the central objective for the app is to alleviate patient stress through transparency, simplicity, and ease.

01UX/UI

Architecture and interaction design provided a crucial foundation for creating a smooth, stress-free user experience. The sitemap demonstrates the app structure and taxonomy, and identifies the primary and secondary pages in the app. The user flow visualizes user movement throughout the application and ensures each path is streamlined and efficient. I created a task flow for the cost estimate tool in order to simplify the complexity of the feature, and to gain a birdseye view of how it fits into the larger flow of the app.

These deliverables served as the blueprints for low fidelity wireframes. I used these wireframes to further refine my designs through usability testing.

Healthcare is often stressful and impersonal. Pond Health's branding reflects its mission to create a more positive, personal experience, with a calm color palette, soft typography, and a playful logo and graphic elements.

Pond's green-blue color palette paired with simple, rounded sans-serif typography creates a welcoming, approachable feel. The color palette is dynamic, with a range of hues to accommodate UI components.

Pond Health provides a personalized healthcare experience. Users input their medical history, demographics, and insurance information during the onboarding process, assuring they receive optimal search results and recommendations. When they find a provider they like, they can save them for easy booking in the future.

When users schedule an appointment, they are provided an estimated cost-of-care based on their personal insurance and the type of visit they selected.

Users can get medical advice or better understand their insurance coverage through PondBot. PondBot uses AI technology to receive input in any format like a smart search, and responds in conversational text. Users select a category, enter their question or keywords, and respond to related questions. PondBot then generates a comprehensive response that may include recommended treatment plan, a list of practitioners, or home remedies to alleviate symptoms.
